In Adrian, Michigan, Merillat began as a small, 2,400-square-foot workshop. Orville and Ruth Merillat established the business in 1946, and it has since risen to the position of being the most preferred brand by builders.
The business still has its headquarters in Michigan and still produces its goods here in America.
Merillat Cabinetry offers more than just cabinets. People are the main factor. those who produce. the designers. the people who own it and keep it in their homes. Our individual skills, concepts, and passions are brought together by the two of us. We are also known as “America’s Cabinetmaker” as a group.

Construction Quality Of Merillat Cabinet
Merillat Masterpiece cabinets are considered semi-custom. Merillat Masterpiece’s 3/4″ thick solid wood full-depth drawers have a Whisper Touch system that makes them close softly. The drawer bottoms are made of 3/16″ plywood and feature durable dovetail construction.
Their doors, which are both solid wood and laminate-covered, have 6-way adjustable hinges that enable the doors to close on their own. In order to prevent it from being unsightly, the hardware is carefully hidden.
All Merillat Masterpiece cabinets come standard with the Whisper Touch System. With just a flick of a switch, you can use this system to change the closing speed to your liking.
A 3/4″ natural birch print on laminate is present on the shelves of the Merillat Masterpiece series. The cabinets’ interiors have laminate with prints of natural birch on them. Customers can choose to have their interior match their exterior with an upgrade.
A 3/4″ solid wood base is used for the installation rails, and the back panel of the cabinets is made of a 3/8″ printed Birch wood grain laminate. End panels have a laminate exterior that is either printed in Birch, Cherry, Maple, Hickory, Oak, or White and are 1/2″ thick.
Roll-out trays are an additional option for customers. These are great for keeping your kitchen utensils organized. These roll-out trays’ backs are pre-drilled, glued, and stapled for durability. The cabinet doors themselves have a lovely wood finish that gives the impression that the stain was applied by hand.
Because they are so reasonably priced, Merillat Classic cabinets are the brand’s most well-liked cabinet line. These have easy-to-clean interiors that withstand moisture and stains and are constructed from solid hardwood components with six-way self-adjusting concealed hinges.

Common Complaints
One can tell from reading customer reviews that most people are happy with the finish, dependability, quality, and cost of Merillat cabinets.
The fact that the cabinets are laminate-covered has disappointed a number of customers, but reading the description and looking at the cabinets in person before buying will help you set reasonable expectations.
Others who purchased the product complained that it had a thin finish and that over time the paint and laminate had started to peel.
Some Merillat Cabinet Reviews From Customer
- Never have I been so let down by a purchase!! These cabinets are thin and underwhelming. Despite being portrayed as “solid,” it is made of laminate and pressed fiber wood. They make me think of the cupboards in mobile homes. I squandered $11,000 on cheap crap.!! Better quality cabinets can be found in boxes on the floor of big box retailers. DON’T BUY MERRILAT!
- In 2002, we purchased a Merillat Masterpiece for our kitchen. My husband and I are alone. Frost Glaze is the shade. The finish is flaking and looks awful. reached out to the merchant where we purchased them. They advised me to go buy some paint at Sherwin Williams. Very disappointed.
- Don’t buy these cabinets if you’re a qualified carpenter and remodeling contractor. The paint’s quality is subpar. Out-of-square cabinet boxes bowed frames, and uneven door quality has all been problems for us. When we have to make return trips after waiting for replacements for three weeks, how does this help us? They will make things right and replace what is necessary. Just pass it by and spend a little more money on better cabinets.
